The number of Missouri National Guard members taking part in storm recovery efforts in Northwest Missouri is up by 40.

Governor Matt Blunt (R-MO) has mobilized the additional Guardsmen and women to assist those impacted by the winter storms that pounded parts of the state. 50 soldiers from the Missouri Army National Guard had previously been sent to Chillicothe to support storm relief efforts there. The 40 additional personnel are members of the Air National Guard’s 139th Airlift Wing in St. Joseph. They’ll help citizens in St. Joseph and Maryville.

There are 70 Guard members from southwest Missouri’s 203rd Engineer Battalion supporting local authorities in Barton County, which was also hard hit.
