Legislation has been filed to protect children from the growing number of dangerous toys and products sold in Missouri.

Representative Margaret Donnelly (D-St. Louis), a Democratic candidate for Attorney General, is calling her bill ( HB 1361 ) the Missouri Children’s Product Safety Act. It would prohibit the sale of all unsafe children’s products and make product recalls mandatory in Missouri. It would also increase corporate responsibility by requiring companies to remove dangerous products from store shelves in a timely manner or be fined up to $500 a day.

Donnelly says the number of toy recalls is rising rapidly.  Her legislation would also empower the Attorney General to investigate and prosecute violations and notify the public of safety recalls.
