Auditor Denies Request to Audit Nixon’s Records

State Auditor Susan Montee has refused to audit records of Attorney General Jay Nixon’s use of a state car for personal and political purposes. The request had come from Office of Administration Director Michael Keathley. Montee says the Governor, himself, has to ask for the audit.

Keathley says the audit should be done to determine if Nixon’s reimbursement to the state of more than $47,000 is adequate.

PSC Chairman on the Hot Seat

Public Service Commission Chairman Jeff Davis finds himself on the defensive because of a meeting he had last January with an official of the Aquila energy company. Aquila is based in western Missouri. It’s hoping to merge with Kansas City Power and Light, the second-biggest power company in Missouri.

During a hearing on the merger, an e-mail from Aquila CEO Richard Green became part of the public record. In the e-mail to the Aquila board, Green says Davis is eager to push the merger through, quickly, to prove that "he can push deals through" in Missouri. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the e-mail was sent more than two months before a public announcement of the merger plans.

Davis says the e-mail overstates the substance of the conversation he and Green had.

Royals Sign OF Guillen

The Royals helped the middle of the order.  They signed  Jose Guillen to a three year $36 million dollar deal.  Guillen hit .290 last year with 23 homers and 99 RBI in 153 games.  There’s risk to this signing.  Guillen’s name has been linked to a story that he purchased steroids and HGH between 2002 and 2005 from the San Francisco Chronicle.  It’s possible Guillen could face a suspension, but the Royals went ahead and did the deal.

Guillen is the highest paid player, based on a per year contract in Royal’s history.
