The $1.8-Million that Congress has failed to come up with to reauthorize the MoSMART methamphetamine-fighting program in Missouri will come from elsewhere – state coffers. Governor Blunt is calling for the entire amount to be part of a supplemental budget.
The Governor says MoSMART is a valuable program and, while he doesn’t like using state dollars to pay for what had been a federal expense, his action is necessary because of congressional lack of action.
There are 48 law enforcement individuals whose sole task is to fight meth through the MoSMART program. Blunt remains hopeful that Congress will eventually get around to reauthorizing the money needed to keep the MoSMART force up and running in the future.
