We’re still a couple of months away from most taxpayers thinking about filing their income tax returns, but the Internal Revenue Service has already started the search for volunteers to help senior citizens and lower income Missourians during tax filing season.

Lynn McMahan with the IRS in St. Louis says now is the time to start looking for helpers because it takes a while to learn what is required of them. Volunteers receive training in tax law and in working with the IRS software that is used. Training sessions can last anywhere from about two to four days, with the IRS hoping to have the volunteers in place by January.
