Attorney General Jay Nixon (D-MO) has appointed a team to investigate allegations of Sunshine Law violations in the Governor’s Office and in the Office of Administration.

Scott Holste with the Attorney General’s Office says this will be an independent investigation. Former Superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol Colonel Mel Fisher will head up the team. He’ll be joined by former State Highway Patrol Lieutenant Rick Wilhoit and former Webster County Circuit Judge Daniel Max Knust. The investigation will be limited both in scope and duration, with an expected completion date of January 15th, 2008.

It all stems from questions regarding the elimination of e-mails in the Governor’s Office and the Office of Administration. The story took on added life when a former attorney, within the Governor’s Office, was fired. He claims he was dismissed after he informed the Governor and the Chief of Staff that e-mails must be retained.
