Scott Rolen’s relationship with manager Tony LaRussa has been strained the last couple of years.   Rolen wasn’t happy when LaRussa signed a two year agreement and hasn’t really talked with LaRussa since the All-Star break.

The Cardinals would be willing to deal Rolen, but wouldn’t be willling to pick up any of his remaing $36 million dollars owed over the next three seasons.  GM John Mozeliak says all reports are that Rolen has made a full recovery from his shoulder operation and could certainly see a scenario where Rolen returns, but they’re searching for other possible options.

Rolen’s agents said he would consider a trade to a contending team.  With A-Rod gone, would the Yankees go for a Rolen deal?  What about the Red Sox if they don’t sign Mike Lowell.
