State and local authorities and the FBI are staying tight-lipped about their investigation into the death of 9-year-old Rowan Ford. The body of the youngster, who went missing from her home in Stella, in Newton County, last weekend, was found Friday morning near Powell, in neighboring McDonald County.

The body of Rowan Ford has been sent to Springfield for an autopsy. Meanwhile, Newton County Sheriff Ken Copeland, who had said early on that he suspected foul play, won’t comment on possible suspects in the case, nor will he comment on possible evidence collected from the crime scene.

Copeland has said that Rowan’s stepfather, David Spears, had not cooperated with law enforcement and had, in fact, hindered the investigation. A pick up truck belonging to Spears and an SUV owned by his mother were impounded and have been undergoing processing by crime-scene technicians.
