A former policeman from Calverton Park has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his girlfriend. A Jefferson County jury convicted Robert Brooks of murdering Amanda Cates, who was a police officer in Normandy.
Cates was found shot to death in the Crystal City home where she and Brooks lived. He claimed she had pointed a gun at him and it had gone off accidentally when they struggled for control of it.
