The St. Louis Cardinals have a new general manager … or at least they will have very soon.
The team has called a news conference for 3 o’clock this afternoon to announce assistant general manager John Mozeliak as the Redbirds’ new G.M. Mozeliak has reportedly accepted a three-year contract after talks with Cleveland Indians assistant general manager Chris Antonetti broke down.
The 39-year-old Mozeliak takes over for Walt Jocketty, who was fired earlier this month.
The St.Louis Rams have a bye week and head coach Scott Linehan is hoping for a fresh start when they return in two weeks to play New Orleans. He gave his players an extra day off today. The Rams will get back to work on Monday.
The Missouri State Bears men’s basketball team was picked to finished third, while the Lady Bears are picked to finished seventh. Bears senior forward Deven Mitchell picked pre-season all conference.

The Mizzou basketball team played their annual Black and Gold intrasquad game. DeMarre Carroll scored a game high 29 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Mizzou Black squad to a 101-95 win. The Big 12 Conference’s Preseason Newcomer of the Year hit 12-of-19 shots. On the Gold team, a good night for junior Matt Lawrence and sophomore J.T. Tiller scored 24 points apiece to pace the Gold Squad. Lawrence hit 7-of-11 three-pointers, while Tiller hit 11-of-20 shots and had three steals.
One player not participating was leading scorer Stefhon Hannah. He was benched right before the game by head coach Mike Anderson. No reason was given other than for Anderson to say that he wasn’t happy with some of the Hannah has been doing.
No timetable on when he’ll return.
Linebacker Derrick Thomas is on the list for the fourth year and will be joined by Albert Lewis and Nick Lowery on the preliminary ballot. Cornerback Emmit Thomas is one of two senior committee nominees. Tom Flores, is nominated for his coaching with the Raiders and Seahawks. Flores was a backup QB with the Chiefs when he played.
Nolan Cromwell, who played with the L.A. Rams is also on the prelim list.
There is a list of 124 nominees that will get reduced to 25 in November, then down to 15 during Super Bowl week.
