Wildfires continue to rage throughout the State of California, and there’s a chance firefighters from Missouri could be called in to help battle the blazes. But that hasn’t happened yet, and probably won’t happen.

State Fire Marshal Randy Cole says Missouri is a part of a national alert system and mutual aid network that would be prepared to assist if called upon. He says assistance would likely come from states closer to California. He adds not all firefighters are qualified to go up against wildfires. To be a wild land firefighter, one must be certified at the national level and be classified as what is referred to as "red card."

Cole adds he cannot say how many Missouri firefighters are "red carded," but has no doubt it would be a limited number.
