I thought this would have been the week the Rams would snap their losing streak and beat a team struggling a bit on their own, the Seattle Seahawks. After the 33-6 loss, things don’t appear to be getting better anytime soon. In their 70 years history, spanning Cleveland, Los Angeles, and St. Louis, the Rams have never started the season 0-7 until this season.
Teams will say you can’t use injuries as an excuse, but when so many pieces of the puzzle have been replaced or moved around on the offensive side of the ball, there are going to be issues. Marc Bulger looked rusty and the offense looked out of sync. This was the perfect game for Seattle to get back on track with their pass rush. The 12th man confused the Rams. Bulger, three interceptions, two lost fumbles, plus seven sacks. Not the type of day you want to have when you’re just coming back from bruised ribs and a bad knee.
I think the defense is doing a pretty good job of holding their own. The score was 10-3 at the half, then a 91 yard kickoff return for a touchdown puts the Rams down 17-3. The Rams defense held Shaun Alexander to just 47 yards, the second week in a row they’ve been effective in stopping the run. It’s tough to stop a team when your offense turns the ball over five times. One thing Scott Linehan mentioned was that he’d like to see the defense create some turnovers of their own, but regardless I think you have to squarely place the blame on the offense for this history making run.
