The Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety, made up of a number of groups and agencies including the State Department of Transportation and the Missouri State Highway Patrol, has launched Operation Safe Driver Week.

MoDOT’s Laura Holloway says this effort is designed to bring attention to the importance of commercial motor vehicle safety – especially big trucks – and all passenger vehicles driving around them. Highway crashes related to large trucks account for 12 percent of the total fatal crashes in the United States.

While this is a national approach, Missouri will extend beyond the big rigs to the importance of safe driving and proper driving techniques, in general.
