Engine Fire Forces St. Louis to Chicago Flight to Return to Lambert

Some scary moments for 142 people on board an American Airlines flight from Lambert Airport in St. Louis to Chicago.

Flight 1400 took off around 1 o’clock Friday afternoon, and a problem was encountered about 15 minutes into the flight when passengers reported a surging or turbulence. It turned out an engine was on fire, but the passengers weren’t yet aware of that fact. At that point, the crew informed passengers the plane would be returning to St. Louis.

Witnesses report that when the plane returned to Lambert, they could see that the left engine on fire. Emergency crews followed the plane down the runway and put out the fire. Nobody was injured.
