State Transportation Director Pete Rahn is preparing to take on some new duties.  Later this month, he takes over as president of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), which represents the state departments of transportation in Washington, D.C.

Rahn was selected by his fellow transportation directors from throughout the country.  He describes the Association as much more than a lobby group for transportation issues, calling it a multi-modal organization responsible for all forms of transportation and coming up with proposals for funding those various forms of transportation.

The Association also adopts safety standards applied to construction projects.  Rahn will be president of AASHTO for one year, making appearances before Congress.
