Did your stomach drop when you saw Eddie Kennison come up lame on the first play from scrimmage?  Of all positions, wide receiver is the Chiefs weakest, and they could not afford an injury.  Kennison hurt his hamstring and we’ll find out more today.

I thought the Chiefs looked pretty efficient on that first drive and when they got in position for the rookie Jason Medlock’s 30 yard field goal attempt it looked like a good start leading 3-0.  Then my wife, who is not the biggest football fan even commented, "how could he miss that?"  She even knows when a guy chokes from that close it’s not good.

From that point on, it just looked like the offense was deflated.  I’m still not ready to give up on the offense.  There’s a reason why Houston has spent their number one pick in the draft the last four years on defense including last year’s number one pick Mario Williams who returned a fumble for a touchdown and finished with five tackles, including two sacks .  They looked pretty solid overall.  On all of the Chiefs turnovers, Texan defenders got a helmet on the ball and physically punished the Chiefs.

Head coach Herm Edwards was pretty blunt about it saying you can’t win in the NFL with four turnovers.

Matt Schaub was solid in his Texans debut, completing 16-of-22 passes for 225 yards.  Houston’s Andre Johnson said in training camp that he felt comfortable with Schaub as his quarterback and he showed it against Kansas City, catching seven passes for 142 yards and a touchdown.

Larry Johnson finished with 10 carries for 43 yards.  Damon Huard was 22-of-33 for 168 yards with 2 INT’s.
