The St. Louis Cardinals dropped a 9-8 slugfest to the Arizona Diamondbacks Saturday night at Chase Field in Phoenix and have fallen 2 games behind the Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central Division.

The Cards fell behind 3-0 early, but then scored 7 times in the 3 rd inning to take what appeared to be a commanding lead. But Snakes came back with 1 in the 3 rd and 5 in the 4 th to take the lead they would not give up.

Aaron Miles hit his 2 nd home run for the Redbirds. Conor Jackson and Stephen Drew each homered for the Diamondbacks.

The Cards (69-70) and Diamondbacks (80-63) play again Sunday afternoon in Phoenix. Brad Thompson (6-5) starts for St. Louis against Arizona’s Doug Davis (13-11).
