The New York Yankees snapped a 2-2 tie with a run in the 7 th inning as they edged the Kansas City Royals 3-2 Friday night at Kauffman Stadium.

Alex Rodriguez had 3 hits, including his 49 th home run. Jorge Posada also homered, his 19 th of the season. Mar Grudzielanek and Alex Gordon each had a pair of hits for the Royals.

Kyle Farnsworth (2-1) got the win out of the bullpen for the Bronx Bombers. Mariano Rivera earned his 24 th save. Neal Musser (0-1) allowed 1 earned run in 2/3 of an inning. He took the loss. Kansas City starter Gil Meche gave up 2 earned runs in 6 innings. He wasn’t involved in the decision.

The Royals (62-78) and the Yankees (79-62) resume their weekend series Saturday night at the K. Brian Bannister (12-7) goes to the mound for the Royals against New York’s Andy Pettitte (12-8).
