It was an offense lover’s dream Tuesday night in Arlington as the Texas Rangers edged the Kansas City Royals 9-8, outhitting them 13-12.

The Texas Rangers jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the 2 nd inning, but the Royals fought back. They scored 3 in the 4 th inning, and 2 more in the 5 th inning to tie the game at 6. Texas responded with a pair of runs in the 7 th , then traded runs in the 8 th before the Royals managed a run in the 9 th to end the scoring.

Jason Smith belted his 5 th home run for the Royals, a 3-run blast. Brad Wilkerson and Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit homers for the Rangers.

John Rheinecker (2-1) pitched 1 scoreless inning to get the win. C.J. Wilson allowed an earned run in 2/3 of an inning to pick up his 11 th save. Leo Nunez (2-3) gave up 2 earned runs on 3 hits in 1/3 of an inning to take the loss.

The Royals (62-76) and Rangers (64-74) play again Wednesday night in Arlington. Kyle Davies (6-11) takes the mound for K.C. against the Rangers’ Vicente Padilla (4-9).
