Game 3 of the St. Louis Cardinals-Chicago Cubs series at Wrigley Field Sunday night got underway following a day of sometimes heavy rain in Chicago. The skies cleared in time for the start of ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball broadcast, but the rain returned with a vengeance as the Cubs batted in the 3 rd inning with the score tied at 0. Play was called and the teams never returned to the field.

Carlos Zambrano had taken the mound for the Cubs and had held the Redbirds hitless through three innings. Kip Wells pitched two hitless innings before giving up a hit in the bottom of the 3 rd just prior to the heavens opening.

No date has been announced for the make up of the rain out. The Cards have two remaining days off: August 27 th and September 10 th .

The series is scheduled to wrap up Monday afternoon at Wrigley with Joel Piniero (3-2) starting for the Cardinals (58-62) against Ted Lilly (13-5) for Chicago (63-59). The Cubs have taken the first two games of this series.
