Home runs by Juan Encarnacion, his 8 th ; Brendan Ryan, his 4 th ; and Albert Pujols, his 27 th gave the St. Louis Cardinals all the runs they could muster as they dropped a 5-3 decision to the Chicago Cubs Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field. The Chicago victory gives the Cubs wins in each of the first two games in the four game weekend series.

Daryle Ward hit his first home run - a grand slam – for the Cubs.

Chicago starter Sean Marshall (6-6) pitched 5 innings for the win, allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits. Ryan Dempster pitched a perfect inning to earn his 19 th save. St. Louis starter Anthony Reyes (2-12) gave up 5 earned runs on 4 hits in 6 innings to take the loss.

The Cardinals (58-62) and Cubs (63-59) play again Sunday night at Wrigley Field. Kip Wells (6-13) goes to the mound for the Redbirds against Chicago’s Carlos Zambrano (14-9).
