Mark Teahen went 2 for 3, including a 1 st inning solo home run – his 6 th of the season and his first since May 29 th – to pace the Kansas City Royals to a 6-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays Monday night at Kauffman Stadium. The win gave the Royals a split in the four game series with the Jays.

The Blue Jays came back to tie the game in the 2 nd and scored once more in the 3 rd to briefly take the lead, but that was all the scoring the Kansas City pitching would allow.

The Royals got 2 runs in the 3 rd , 1 in the 5 th , then capped off the scoring with a pair of insurance runs in the 7 th .

Odalis Perez (7-11) gave up 2 earned runs on 8 hits in 5 innings of work to pick up the win. But the solid relief work of Joel Peralta, Jimmy Gobble, Zack Greinke, and Joakim Soria out of the bullpen allowed only 1 Toronto hit the rest of the way. Jays’ starter Jesse Litsch (4-5) surrendered 2 earned runs on 6 hits in 6 2/3 innings to take the loss.

The Royals (52-65) are now on the road, opening a series with the Texas Rangers Tuesday night in Arlington. Kyle Davies (5-8) heads to the mound for K.C. against the Rangers’ Kevin Millwood (7-9).
