Casualties from the heat are starting to add up. Three people have died from heat strokes in St. Louis. The St. Louis victims were 73 to 88 years old. Two lived in homes without air conditioning. The third lived in a home with only a small window air conditioning.

Heat is considered a factor in the death of a Newton County farmer who collapsed in his yard while walking back to his house from a field where his tractor broke down. The county coroner says he might have had a heart attack or a stroke, but the heat hastened his death.

Kansas City reports the deaths of a 74-year old man and a 47-year old man are attributable to the heat.
