Kyle Davies pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing only 3 hits, as the Kansas City Royals shut out the Minnesota Twins 1-0 Thursday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium.

The victory gave the Royals a win in the series, as they took 2 out of the 3 games. The lone run of the game came in the 3 rd inning as Jason LaRue scored Tony Pena on a sacrifice fly.

Davies (5-8) picked up his first win in a Royals uniform. Joakim Soria pitched 1 1/3 innings of hitless relief to earn his 12 th save. Minnesota starter Matt Garza (1-3) gave up the only run, which was earned, to take the loss.

The Royals (50-63) open a weekend series with the Toronto Blue Jays Friday night at the K. Gil Meche (7-9) goes to the mound for Kansas City against Toronto’s Shaun Marcum (8-4).
