The Chairman of the U.S. House Armed Services Committee reacts to a Government Accountability Office report that tens of thousands of weapons given to Iraqi security forces in 2004 and 2005 are missing and might have fallen into the hands of insurgents.
Congressman Ike Skelton (D-MO) says he’s "terribly concerned," adding he learned a number of years ago that there were dozens of weapons caches that had been left unguarded and were open to being looted.
These weapons were bought and paid for with American tax dollars. According to Skelton, "The accounting of much of the dollars, not just weapons, but other areas has been lax in so many respects."
"That’s why," Skelton continues, "In the Defense Bill this year, we have strict accountability on the various contractors and the dollars that are meant to be spent in Iraq."
In all, the Pentagon has lost track of 190,000 AK-47 assault rifles and pistols.
