The University of Missouri-Columbia might become just the University of Missouri.

School officials are talking about dropping Columbia from the university’s name to eliminate any thinking that the University System’s flagship is a regional school. Chancellor Brady Deaton says he’s been presented with resolutions from the "For All We Call Mizzou" fundraising campaign and the Mizzou Alumni Association supporting the name change.

A change would restore the school’s original name. It was known simply as the University of Missouri before the four-campus university system formed in 1963. There are also campuses in St. Louis, Kansas City, and Rolla.
