The Kansas City Royals take a series from the Boston Red Sox, edging the BoSox 6-5 in the rubber game of their three game series Wednesday night at Fenway Park.

Billy Butler and Alex Gordon each had a pair of hits and a pair of runs batted in. Mark Grudzielanek added an RBI on 2 hits. Manny Ramirez belted his 14 th home run for the Red Sox.

Odalis Perez (5-8) pitched 5 innings for the win, giving up 5 earned runs on 7 hits. Octavio Dotel pitched a scoreless inning for his 10 th save. Julian Tavarez (5-8) gave up the 6 runs, 4 of them earned, on 9 hits in 4 2/3 innings to take the loss.

The Royals (41-53) enjoy an off day on Thursday before opening a weekend series Friday night against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park. Gil Meche (6-6) goes to the mound for the Royals against Detroit’s Kenny Rogers (3-1).
