The Kansas City Royals jumped out to a 5-0 lead with 2 runs in the 1 st inning and 3 more in the 3 rd , then held on to edge the Indians 6-5 Saturday night at Jacobs Field in Cleveland.

Emil Brown went 2 for 5 with 3 runs batted in, all of them coming on a 3-run homer in the 3 rd inning, his 4 th home run of the season. Billy Butler went 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs. Mark Teahen added 3 hits. Ryan Garko belted his 10 th homer of the season for the Indians.

Kansas City starter Gil Meche (6-6) evened his won-loss record on the strength of a 5 inning performance in which he surrendered 4 earned runs on 8 hits. Octavio Dotel pitched 1 inning, giving up 1 hit, to earn his 9 th save. Cleveland starter C.C. Sabathia (12-4) gave up 6 earned runs in 7 innings to take the loss.

The Royals (39-51) and the Indians (53-37) play the rubber game of their weekend series Sunday afternoon at the Jake. Jorge De La Rosa (7-9) goes to the mound for the Royals against the Tribe’s Fausto Carmona (10-4).
