The Philadelphia Phillies pounded out 23 hits en route to a 13-3 drubbing of the St. Louis Cardinals Friday night at Citizens Bank Park in the City of Brotherly Love.

The Phillies scored 5 runs in the 1 st inning and added runs in the 2 nd , 3 rd , and 4 th innings to go up 9-0 before the Redbirds got on the scoreboard in the 5 th inning.

Albert Pujols belted his 17 th home run of the season for the Cardinals. Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins homered for Philadelphia.

St. Louis starter Kip Wells (3-12) gave up 6 runs, 4 of the earned, on 8 hits in 1 inning of work to take the loss. Kyle Kendrick (4-0) pitched 7 innings, giving up 1 run, for the win.

The Cardinals (40-46) and the Phillies (45-44) play again Saturday in Philadelphia. Mile Maroth (5-3) goes to the mound for the Cards against the Phillies’ Cole Hamels (10-4).
