The Kansas City Royals bounced back from a deficit Friday night at Jacobs Field in Cleveland to tie their game with the Indians in the 9 th inning, but the Tribe scored a run in the bottom of the 9 th to edge the Royals 5-4.

Ryan Garko’s walk-off single in the 9 th drove in the winning run to spoil the Royals’ comeback effort.

Mark Grudzielanek and Billy Butler each had a pair of hits for Kansas City.  Ross Gload, Alex Gordon, Joey Gathright, and Tony Pena drove in the KC runs.

Joe Borowski (2-3) picked up the win for the Indians. Zack Greinke (4-5) gave up 2 hits in 1/3 of an inning to take the loss.

The Royals (38-51) and the Indians (53-36) play again Saturday night at the Jake. Gil Meche (5-6) pitches for the Royals against the Tribe’s C.C. Sabathia (12-3).
