Shawn Green belted an 11 th inning walk off home run, his 7 th roundtripper of the season, to snap a 1-1 tie and lift the New York Mets to a 2-1 against the St. Louis Cardinals in the opening game of a four-game series at Shea Stadium Monday night.

The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the 3 rd inning on a Carlos Gomez home run. The Cards ties it up in the 5 th and the game remained tied until Green ended the contest in extra innings.

Aaron Heilman (6-3) pitched 1 inning for the win. Russ Springer (3-1), who only faced Green in the 11 th , took the loss.

The Cardinals (33-40) and the Mets (42-32) play again Tuesday night in Flushing Meadows. Todd Wellemeyer (2-1) goes to the mound for the Redbirds against the Mets’ Oliver Perez (7-6).
