State emergency officials have launched the Missouri Summer Weather Safety Campaign which focuses attention on information concerning heat, lightening and other severe weather.
Terri Durdaller with the Department of Public Safety says that while there are plenty of things for Missourians to watch out for during the summer months, this campaign focuses on the weather related concerns. They include heat related illnesses and the threat of lightning. Durdaller says last summer, 25 Missourians died from heat related illnesses and two people died from lightning strikes.
The National Weather Service and the State Emergency Management Agency have set June 24th through the 30th for the campaign which will pass along warnings about risks involved with increased exposure to heat and severe weather.
