Team Blunt is heading to St. Louis to help a cancer awareness foundation raise two-million dollars tomorrow.

The Susan G. Komen Foundation is holding its annual Race for the Cure. First Lady Melanie Blunt heads a team of more than 100 runners and walkers.

Mrs. Blunt lost her mother to breast cancer. She points out this is something that impacts so many Missouri families, as more than 1,200 women in this state die from breast cancer each year. That’s the same approximate number of Missouri women who are diagnosed with breast cancer annually.

Mrs. Blunt’s team has already has raised more than $4,000. The Foundation expects more than 400 teams to take part in the race. Mrs. Blunt plans to walk the course. Her husband – Governor Matt Blunt – plans to run it, with two-year old son Branch in a jogger – kind of a stroller that goes faster.
