Brian Bannister out-dueled Paul Byrd, and Ryan Shealy homered and drove in two runs to lift the Kansas City Royals over the Cleveland Indians, 4-3, in the second game of a three-game set at Jacobs Field. Bannister (2-3) held the Indians to a run on five hits and struck out two without issuing a walk over seven innings. Mark Teahen had two hits and an RBI, while David DeJesus also knocked in a run for Kansas City, which put the brakes on a three-game skid. Joey Gathright, recalled from Triple-A Omaha before the game, had two hits, a stolen base, sacrifice bunt and a run scored.
