The Kansas City Royals take advantage of a quality start from Brian Bannister as they even their series with the Cleveland Indians, edging the Tribe 4-3 Wednesday night at Jacobs Field in Cleveland.

Brian Bannister (2-3) pitched seven strong innings for the win, giving up one unearned run on just five hits.

The Royals got on the board first with two runs in the 3 rd inning. They then added a run in the 4 th and 5 th innings. The 4 th inning run was Ryan Shealy’s third home run of the season.

Cleveland chipped away with runs in the 6 th , 8 th , and 9 th innings, but could get no closer as Octavio Dotel stopped the Indians after giving up an earned run in the 9 th , picking up his 2 nd save of the season. Cleveland starter Paul Byrd (2-6) took the loss.

The Royals (22-38) close out their series Thursday afternoon at the Jake, with Odalis Perez (3-5) going to the mound for Kansas City against the Tribe’s Fausto Carmona (6-1).
