The Missouri Transportation and Development Council, a Division of the business lobby group Associated Industries of Missouri, is hosting a transportation funding summit in Jefferson City on Monday to discuss such things as road conditions and how best to fund road improvements.

AIM President Gary Marble says money for roads will be a huge issue in the coming years as the federal government moves toward having the states take more responsibility for the funding of their highways.

Marble says the state government, transportation officials, and the people of the Missouri will have to make some decisions as to how to keep funding our roads – and that could mean additional funding through taxes. He says all these issues must be discussed before the state finds itself facing a severe challenge.
