Juan Encarnacion and Gary Bennett hit their first homers of the season on consecutive pitches in St. Louis’ seven-run ninth inning to lift the Cardinals to an 8-1 victory over the Houston Astros on Friday night. Encarnacion’s homer, off Chad Qualls broke a 1-all tie. Bennett extended the lead with his home run, also to left, on the next pitch. Bennett added a two-run double later in the inning that made it 8-1.  Scott Spiezio had a two-run double in the ninth and pitcher Kip Wells got an RBI.  Adam Wainwright allowed four hits and one run with six strikeouts in seven innings but did not figure in the decision. Ryan Frankllin picked up the win in relief.  The Cards and ‘Stros play game 2 of the 3 game series Saturday afternoon.
