For the first time since 1994, the Missouri softball team (39-22) was victorious in its NCAA Regional Tournament opener, blasting Southern Illinois 8-0 in Carbondale, Ill.

The win took only five innings to complete, thanks to the run-rule being enforced following Sarah Stringer’s two-run double in the bottom of the fifth.  The Tiger senior was one of four MU players to collect two hits, a group which also included pitcher Jen Bruck (21-9).  The right-hander went the distance, permitting just four Salukie batters to reach base.

19th-ranked Mizzou plays No. 14 DePaul today at noon.
