The Kansas City Royals are all smiles as they leave the Bay Area, after downing the Oakland A’s 7-4 on Thursday to take three out of four games.

Mike Sweeney and Mark Teahen combined for four hits, two runs batted in, and three runs scored in a game that clinched the first series win for the Royals since April against the Minnesota Twins at Kauffman Stadium and the team’s first series win on the road this season.

Kansas City starter Scott Elarton (1-0) pitched 5.1 innings for the win. He gave four earned runs on six hits. Joakim Soria pitched the 9 th inning for his eighth save. Oakland starter Dallas Braden (1-3) took the loss.

The Royals (15-27) begin inter-league play when they take on the Colorado Rockies in Denver on Friday night. Jorge De La Rosa (4-3) pitches for Kansas City against the Colorado’s Jeff Francis (2-4).
