The Kansas City Royals snapped a 4 game losing streak, beating the Oakland A’s 3-2 at Kauffman Stadium. The two teams took a 2-2 tie into the 8th inning when Mike Sweeney belted his fourth home run of the year to give the Royals a lead they would hold onto as reliever Joakim Soria put down the A’s in the top of the 9th.

Jimmy Gobble (1-1) pitched one inning of relief to earn the victory. Soria’s 9th outing earned him his 6th save of the season. Justin Duchscherer (3-2) took the loss. Thought he didn’t figure in the decision, Royals starter Gil Meche (3-1) pitched 6 strong innings, giving up one earned run on 3 hits, striking out 7 batters.

The Royals (11-23) close out their series with Oakland Thursday afternoon at the K. Brian Bannister (0-2) takes to the mound for Kansas City against Oakland’s Joe Kennedy (0-2).
