A new posse of citizen volunteers is forming in Cole County. The Cole County Sheriff’s Posse is a partnership between local law enforcement and citizens to provide community-based support in the event of an emergency. Sheriff Greg White says citizen volunteers are recieving training in various emergency response skills such as first aid, C-P-R, damage assessment, even skills in locating evidence.

White says the posse is meant to foster a positive relationship between law enforcement and its local community. He says the volunteers would be deployed to assist with paperwork, emergency logistics and even security. Ninety-six people turned out for posse’s first training session last month. White says all applicants recieve background and reference checks.
