The state Department of Transportation continues its push to raise awareness for its April "No More Trash Bash" campaign. Director Pete Rahn pitched in on roadside clean up in Jefferson City yesterday. Rahn says the month-long campaign is meant to encourage residents to volunteer to help out and discourage the harmful habits of motorists
Rahn says the clean-up his department provides could not be done without volunteers. He says about 38-hundred volunteer groups are responsible for keeping about 58-hundred miles of state roadway clear of litter. Rahn says the Adopt-a-highway program saves taxpayers one million dollars a year. But, he says roadside clean-up costs the department 6 million a year.
