It might not feel like boating season with the recent bout of cold weather, but as boaters start gearing up for days spent on the water they’ll find there are a couple changes to boater registration going into effect. Jackie Bemboom with the Department of Revenue says boat owners who will need to renew their boat registrations that are set to expire at the end of June must now submit a paid personal property tax receipt from 2006.

The other requirements include increased registration fees for all boats, with some fees more than trippling. Boats under 16 feet must now cost $25, boats 16 feet to 26 feet require a $55 fee, boats 26 feet to 40 feet cost $100 and boats over 40 feet require $150. Bemboom says she doesn’t expect the additional cash and paperwork will discourage anyone from renewing their boat registrations.
