The bill setting up competition for the cable television market has been signed by Governor Matt Blunt. The legislation makes it easier for telephone companies to provide service, but it also means cable companies can get out of their contracts with communities as soon as a phone company moves into the town.
Backers say it should lead to better service and more competitive rates.
Missouri is the 12th state to approve competition for the land-line based cable industry.
