Mizzou wrestling never finished higher than 10 th in the National Championship Tournament. That was until this year when the Tigers took third thanks to the second consecutive National Championship from Ben Askren at 174 pounds.

Askren defeated Pittsburgh’s Keith Gavin for the third time this year. He pinned him twice earlier in the season, but this time needed an 8-2 decision to up his match winning streak to 87 in a row.

"It’s a great day for the program," Missouri coach Brian Smith said. "Our goal was to win a national title, but Missouri hasn’t brought home a team trophy in any sport since 1965."

The Tiger finished with 80 points overall, trailing just Iowa State and champion Minnesota.
