Testimony in the legal challenge to the adequacy and equity of Missouri’s school funding formula is over, but it could be a while before Cole County Circuit Judge Richard Callahan makes a ruling. In fact, closing arguments won’t be made for several more weeks.

Attorney Alex Bartlett, who represents the plaintiffs – 236 school districts – says there’s still quite a bit of work to be done on the part of the attorneys. They’ll be working on posttrial briefings as lawyers sift throughthe mountains of paperwork that  have been submitted but not discussed in open court.

The start closing arguments is tentatively scheduled to begin at the end of March or early in April. The suit was filed in January of 2004, but proceedings in the challenge did not begin until the first week of January this year.
