Governor Matt Blunt takes advantage of an appearance before a supportive audience, a Missouri Chamber of Commerce luncheon, to talk up his administration’s accomplishments and the ideas he wants the General Assembly to act on.
Blunt’s speech touched on issues of great importance to the business community: the Quality Jobs Act, the Lewis & Clark Initiative which would sell off $350-Million of assets of MOHELA – the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority – to fund capital improvement projects on college campuses, and Missouri METS – the Chamber-led initiative to increase and improve the teaching of mathematics, engineering, technology, and science in Missouri’s schools.
The Governor also spoke of the need for the Legislature to reform health care, promoting his Missouri HealthNet proposal, which would replace the existing Medicaid program, providing health care to the uninsured and underinsured who would otherwise seek treatment in hospital emergency rooms. And, he expressed hope that lawmakers would follow through on his State of the State proposal to offer incentives to employers to encourage them to provide health care to employees.
