The Jasper County chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving accuses the police chief in Seneca of using his position to avoid a sobriety check point. And the Joplin Globe says the recording of Chief Doyle Shields’ call to a Newton County dispatcher backs up that claim.
MADD says Shields wanted to avoid the checkpoint after going out for dinner and drinks last November 10th. The chapter has sent a letter to Shields and to the city council in Seneca calling the chief’s actions “highly unprofessional.”
Shields does not deny the allegations but says MADD’s characterization of his conduct as “unprofessional” is just an opinion. He says he did nothing illegal or unethical.
