It’s been a good year for Missouri State baseball players both past and present. First, former Bear Ryan Howard enjoyed many honors that included winning the National League MVP among others. Now, present Bear Ross Detwiler has received an honor of his own. The junior pitcher has been named to the preseason All-American second team by Baseball America.

The lefthander finished 7-4 last year with a 2.81 ERA and 99 strikeouts in 14 starts. He was arguably at his best down the stretch winning four of his last five starts with a 0.93 ERA and threw a complete-game one-hitter against Creighton in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.

Detwiler spent last summer gaining valuable experience against some of the country’s best as a member of the Team USA squad. He gave up just two earned runs in 19 innings helping Team USA win the World Championship.
