Blues right wing Dallas Drake scored two goals in a 3-1 win over the Kings Thursday night. That gave Drake four goals in the last five games, which is remarkable considering he went 59 scoreless games earlier this season.
St. Louis put together their second consecutive win on a four-game West Coast trip that will end tomorrow night at San Jose.
Both of Drake’s goals came off deflections in the first period. David Backes and Jay McClement assisted on both goals. Drake has recorded eight two-goal games and 173 goals in his career, but he’s still chasing the elusive hat trick.
“Those two horses I was playing with tonight were throwing everything on net,” Drake said. “They were big and strong in the corners. I was just standing in front. The second one, I was lucky… it went off my foot.”
Bill Guerin also scored for St. Louis and Manny Legace stopped 33 shots.
Blues head coach Andy Murray made his first return to Los Angeles after spending five-plus seasons behind the team’s bench. He won a franchise-high 215 games with the Kings and led them to the playoffs in each of his first three seasons. Kings officials showed their appreciation for Murray by showing his face on the video board above center ice with a message that displayed the words “Thank you Andy for seven years of tireless effort and dedication to the Kings.”
